Be inspired by a personal letter from Richard Rohan. Scroll down to find the sponsorship form.
Six months ago, when I was observing shiva for my mother, a few visitors and I were commenting on the fact that the ark used to house the Sefer Torah that had been brought to our home for services during shiva was quite large, very heavy, and difficult to transport to mourners’ homes. My aunt Ann Rosenberg was part of that conversation and offered to underwrite the commissioning of a portable-sized Torah scroll and an accompanying ark so that the synagogue would be able to easily transport the Torah and ark to shiva houses, and the Torah would be available for other situations where there was a need for a portable scroll. Ann asked that the Torah be dedicated to the memory of my parents, Manny and Valy Rohan, ob”m, for which I’m particularly grateful.
As a result of Ann’s generosity, Shaare Tefilla is now in possession of such a Torah scroll, and we plan to dedicate it on the morning of Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Congregation Shaare Tefilla. Immediately prior to the Torah dedication, we will be completing the final 75 letters of the Torah. This will be a wonderful opportunity for individuals and families to participate in the mitzvah of writing a Torah scroll.
We are blessed to have many new families and members who have joined our community since the last time we had the good fortune to dedicate a Torah scroll. Additionally, we have many young families who may not have been able to participate in the completion of the previous Sefer Torah. And of course, many in the community may simply wish to participate in order to recognize the many contributions Ann makes to the community and to pay tribute to the memory of my parents, ob”m. We are asking participants to make a contribution of $75 (or more if they wish) for each letter they are sponsoring to complete. All proceeds raised by this effort will be dedicated to youth programming at Shaare Tefilla.
I hope you will join me in expressing our gratitude to Ann for her foresight and proactive response to our community’s needs by contributing to this project and helping us dedicate a new Sefer Torah. And I hope to see you on the morning of August 6.
Yours Truly,
