5785 Simchat Torah Project

Simchat Torah is a day of joy, festivity, and hakafot – we dance and
celebrate. But Simchat Torah 5785 will also mark the first yahrzeit of
the victims of October 7th. How do we, the Jewish people, respond? How
do we commemorate this poignant and difficult anniversary?

“There is a time for everything under the Heavens… a time to mourn and
a time to dance.” This Simchat Torah, with tears in our eyes, we will
dance.

Shaare Tefilla is proud to join 1,600 communities around the world,
from Mexico City to Melbourne, London to LA, Baltimore to Buenos
Aires, to dance with Sifrei Torah, each one bearing the name of one of
the victims. On Simchat Torah, one Sefer Torah in each shul will be
adorned with an identical new me’il (Torah cover), designed to mark
the first yahrzeit of October 7th. Each scroll will bear the name of a
different kadosh, and will feature the Israeli flag and the
above-mentioned verse from Kohelet.
